IoT Engine is a new pre-accelerator programme based at the brand-new Barnsley DMC02 MakerLab which will support businesses with aspects of the Internet of Things (IoT) and associated technology – like sensors, software/hardware and making use of data.

IoT Engine is a TEAM SY programme partnered with Connexin, an innovative and disruptive technology company specialising in building and operating award-winning Smart City Infrastructure to support the Internet of Things.

The programme will provide support through;

1:1 mentoring on the use of IoT
Prototype development to demonstrate proof-of-concept
Workshops with IoT experts
Networking events with customers, suppliers and thought leaders

The programme aims to validate business concepts, help build an early version of a product and explore technical strategy to establish a new company, expand existing companies, or introduce a new product or service to the businesses.

“The programme is going well: we’ve had a steady flow of applicants and we’re just starting to close off our first couple of projects with positive outcomes. Overall, people are thrilled to have access to the programme and the assistance we’re providing. People are excited by the catalytic effect we will have or have had on their businesses, whether an enabler for a new businesses or invigoration of a more established SME. We’re also very fortunate to have Lauren onboard now, who is already proving to be a key member of the team and helping us to deliver high quality assistance to our participants. We’ve got more really exciting projects in the pipeline and I’m excited to get stuck in! The partnership with TEAM SY has been invaluable thus far for their experience with leading similar programmes in the past, and with the entrepreneurial network they nurture. They have provided several helpful routes for some of the applicants on the programme to get tailored help with growing their businesses and skillsets.” – Dr Rikki Coles
